Fellowship focus: To model and scale up the computational technique of Agent-Based Models (ABMs) to improve the economic status of workers.

Economist Professor Román will collaborate with Surrey’s experts in sociology to show how ABMs – a dynamic methodology that focuses on individual actors and local policy initiatives – can be used to model the impact and outcomes of policies on a local labour market. Using the City of San Antonio’s Ready to Work Program as a case study, they will explore how this approach can improve the economic status of vulnerable groups of workers and bring benefits to the city as a whole, with the aim of developing a functioning and validated agent-based simulation.
