Author talk: Female Bodies and Male Violence. Documenting the Short Life of Laetitia Perrais (1992-2011)

This talk is given by Prof Ivan Jablonka as part of his visiting IAS  Fellowship at the University of Surrey. Hosted by the School of Literature and Languages. This event comes with a content warning.

  • About

In this talk, Ivan Jablonka will explore how the life and tragic death of a young woman, Laetitia Perrais, raise crucial issues regarding gender in French society, while also intersecting with key questions surrounding masculinities in our globalised world, such as the affective and legal dimensions of fatherhood; the depiction of sexual violence and femicide in the press, media, and literature; masculinity and socio-economic class; masculinities within the judicial and carceral systems. Beyond Laetitia's story, we can try and understand how the patriarchy uses and destroys women's bodies.

*Please be advised that the talk will discuss physical and emotional violence and abuse, and focuses on a brutal murder case involving sexual violence
