Fellowship focus: Exploring responsible face analysis techniques and how this concept is applied in the real world.
The ‘black box’ nature of deep learning makes end users confused or suspicious about decision-making based on AI, and is a major problem for face analysis systems. Dr Hu, whose company Oosto specialises in AI vision-based security solutions, will collaborate with Professor Boureanu to investigate new approaches to the privacy problems related to existing facial analysis systems, such as trialling the use of computer graphics techniques for AI model training and privacy-preserved AI solutions for end users. In addition to conducting joint research projects, Dr Hu and Professor Boureanu will organise a series of workshops and seminars to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
