We live in an ageing society where social interactions are increasingly important. Safe driving is key to socialising in various urban and rural settings, but ageing poses many challenges for driving. A number of countries typically require proof of driving assessment capability from a medical or other expert to continue driving over a certain age limit. Yet, there is no universal approach or tool to support these experts and increase road safety for everyone.
This workshop builds on past and ongoing research collaborations at the University of Surrey (e.g. WISE-ACT, Ready2Drive, IAS Fellowship, SimFit2Drive) to report on key findings, specify current needs and explore future steps. Findings from three previous studies in the UK and Slovenia will be presented, after the keynote presentation by Driving Mobility. Participants will have the opportunity to see a driving simulator session in practice. This workshop is aimed at driving organisations, local and national authorities, community groups, practitioners, researchers and policy makers.
